What is Chai

Chai is the word used in many parts of the world for Tea. Indian Chai also called Masala Chai is a Spice Milk drink made with Black tea and mixed with a variety of spices. Common spices used are Cardamom, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves and Black Peppercorns.

There are various powders and syrups on the market calling themselves Chai. These contain sugar and preservatives. There is no substitute to authentic Chai. Its unfortunate that we have all become lazy and its easier to use the powdered form and just add hot water than to take a few minutes extra to brew some tea and add hot frothed milk to it.

But is the powdered form good for us in the long run?

If we look at the ingredients in Chai they have many properties that can be beneficial to us. For instance Cinnamon can lower your blood sugar and has a unique healing ability. Cardamom increases your appetite and aids digestion and is a breath freshner!

So take the time to make yourself an authentic cup of Chai and say goodbye to the powdered stuff.
